John Muir Trust owns and cares for some of the UK’s finest wild landscapes including Ben Nevis, Schiehallion and Sandwood Bay.
Since the inception of the trust, a fragmented approach to its visual communication had occurred, resulting in several different logos and visual elements being used without consistency. We were approached to develop a distinctive and consistent branding which would work well with on a vast array of material and provide a consolidated visual identity for the trust.
Following the exploration of a number of visual directions, the final route chosen was based on a simple double square/typographical approach. Blocks indicating solidity are overlaid on beautiful imagery but, being translucent, they join rather than obscure the landscape which they protect.
